Over 12,000 people hit our website in the first auction in 2007 and that website was only open for five months before our three week long auction. This year the website will be open for a full year and a half before our 2009 auction which will run during the entire 2009 Michigan football season, from kickoff of the season opener to the final whistle of the Ohio State game in Ann Arbor. Place your company's logo on our site that links back to your own web page and you could develop new business. We can track how often your logo is viewed and clicked to see just how many people are accessing your site.

Starting at kickoff of the 2009 Michigan football season, the Bernard "Pat" Maloy Scholarship Committee of the University of Michigan Division of Kinesiology will hold our second fundraising auction. This time around we'll be auctioning off a number of fun and unique items to bid on to raise money for the Scholarship which is awarded to incoming UofM freshmen who have been touched by cancer, either themselves or an immediate family member. A diagnosis of cancer impacts the whole family. Cancer patients and their families must accept the diagnosis, suffer through difficult treatments, and face an uncertain future. From the day of diagnosis, no family member's life is quite the same. For young adults going off to college, a diagnosis of cancer for either themselves or a family member is especially emotionally traumatic. Besides the psychological concern, new college students may likely deal with the physical side effects of treatment and be unable to earn funds for tuition and expenses. The more items we have the more money we can raise, so we're asking for your help.

Give a little and get a lot in return! -There are so many ways to help the cause.

Who Was Pat Maloy?

Bernard Patrick, "Pat," Maloy, died Nov. 28 2001 with his family at his bedside after a courageous battle with cancer. In 1986, he became assistant professor at U of M Kinesiology, Department of Sports Management and Communication. In 1993, he was promoted to associate professor, teaching courses in the legal aspects of sport and facility management. Pat loved teaching and promoted excellence in analytic and writing skills. He was known as a strong, caring professor, who challenged his students and took great care in evaluating their work. According to Maloy, the students were more challenging than any jury he ever faced. Pat began his career with a law practice in North Judson, Ind., but he returned to graduate school several years later to study sports administration. Upon graduation, he took a corporate management job with MDS Qantel, a computer company specializing in dealings with teams in the National Football League, National Basketball Association and several universities.

"I wouldn't be where I am today without the guidance and experience that was provided to me by Pat Maloy. Like so many 18 year olds entering college I was somewhat of a rudderless ship... It was Pat's guidance that helped me focus my interests."                               Noel Cimmino, '94 BA Sport Managment
